An end to the blog confusion

Up until now, I have maintained two blogs, one at Tumblr and one at Posterous posterous, now defunct, both containing nearly the same content. Both of these blogging sites had their advantages and disadvantages, but the Posterous blog was my primary blog site untill recently. It seems that some people were having trouble downloading files that I posted there, especially on later browsers such as Firefox 4.0. Since I’m all about getting my files out there for all to hear, I decided it would be better to host my files in a different place and link to them as needed. As it turns out, Dropbox allows for this in a very simple and streamlined way. All I need to do is to place the file I want to share in ~/Dropbox/Public and then copy its download link, which I can get from Nautilus when I’m in that folder. I can then link directly to it using Markdown syntax in my post to my blog. Initial tests have been quite successful, producing links in my post that go directly to the file in question rather than linking to an ad page that will make my readers/listeners wait up to a minute before being able to download my file, and without any clutter from unnecessary flash-based players on the page. Also, this method works for any type of file I want to post, not just the audio links to my songs that I post from time to time.

After very careful consideration of the options available to me, I decided that if I must host my files outside of the site where my blog is hosted, I really don’t need to maintain a blog in two places. So as of today, since I like the way my Tumblr blog looks, and since I like the interface and features it has, I am discontinuing posting my blog on Posterous. I have changed my profile links on various social networks to reflect this change. The only real noticeable difference to most people will be that my file download links will be direct links to download the files and there will be no more flash players. But that’s OK, since I didn’t like Flash anyway. The only other major change is the colors that people will see, since the Tumblr theme is different from the Posterous theme I was using. But other than some basic design changes, the same great Kyle goodness you have come to know and love will continue springing forth from my brain, mouth and fingers, just as much as always. :) For all that great Kyle goodness, see my official blog.

I do hope that Amazon provides an API to their Cloud Drive service in the near future. Flash sucks egg shells!

Just found out I have 5GB of online storage included with my Amazon account. And mp3 purchases don't count. Amazon rocks!

Less than a year after I found a cell provider I like, it gets bought out by the worst company in the country. Funny how this happens
